Story behind the song
I was moved to write a song as a gift for my two daughters. They were both to be married the same summer the same year one month apart. Its a fathers look back at his life with the girls who grow to become married women.
Lyrics
I can see you there in your rockin chair, with a Barbie on your knee. I wonder how such blessings, where ever givin to me. Whats that beside your chair, a picture of Mommy? then youll say the magic words, " I made it for Daddy" The pictures on our wall of fame, are memories in our minds. The Easter dress, the trophy for best the cabin in the pines. The dance contest, the big ball game a roller coaster ride. These blessings I've been given , to be the Father of the Bride. ---- Chorus---- I wanna know , what happened to those days' Where did they go, so slowly slipped away. You wonder if the time you spent, you might do something right . blessings I've been givin to be the Father of the bride. --v2-- With courage and determination you set off now for school. Do your best never settle for less is all I'll ask of you. When challenges come your way, know there's blessings in there too... I dont think I've said it near enough, I'm so proud of you. ----Chorus--- I wanna know, What happened to those days. Where did they go, they slowly slipped away. Like the stars light up the nite, you lite up my life. Now you'll take the sacred vow , to be man and wife --v3-- Now the time has come and with family near, my world has changed around. From little girls with buttons and curls, to women in their Wedding Gown. The angels in their heaven, will surely bless this ground. Forgive me for a moment, as I slowly turn around. --Chorus-- I wanna know, what happen to those days. Where did they go, slowly slipped away. Like the stars lite up the nite, you lite up my life. These blessings I've been givin, to be the Father of the bride.
