Story behind the song
Back when I played in a band, we had a very ambitious singer and bandleader. He often spoke with great conviction that we were destined to become stars. He would go into vivid details, imagining himself moving to New Jersey, throwing yacht parties, and living the glamorous life of a celebrity. At some point I felt inspired to write a song about him capturing both his big dreams and the almost childlike certainty with which he believed in them. Summer Rain is that song: a mix of admiration, irony, and a glimpse into the spirit of someone who truly believed in stardom.
Lyrics
Verse 1) In my dreams I live in New Jersey, Ive got a big house and a private plane. A lot of cars, girls, and casinos, No movie will run without my name. (Pre-Chorus) Now you can call me a dreamer, But I know my dream will come true. Ill throw a party on my boat, And you are welcome on my long-promised road. (Refrain) Im gonna keep on until my dream comes true. And I am a hero, a hero of a brand new day. I am a star, Im on the road today. I am a hero, yeah take a look at me. I am a star and I feel summer rain. (Verse 2) My neighbors, they are all movie stars, Feeling small when they hear my name. Im a well-known guest at the White House, The president calls me his friend. (Pre-Chorus) Im gonna keep on until my dream comes true. (Refrain) And I am a hero, a hero of a brand new day. I am a star, Im on the road today. I am a hero, yeah take a look at me. I am a star and I feel summer rain. [Outro] I'm a hero I'm a hero I'm a hero I'm a hero
